We are proud to add a new feature to our homepage entitled Prophecy Chat. Mrs. Sharon Clemens, one of our class instructors, has been writing her Prophecy Chat email newsletter for quite some time to send to anyone who subscribes to it. We feel that this newsletter would be an invaluable tool on our website also, for anyone wanting to learn more about Bible prophecy, and also seeing how world events happening right now are taken directly from pages of Scripture. We hope you will agree. For more information about Sharon, a picture and a brief biography of her can be found under the Our Instructors tab on this website.

Middle East Peace Plan?

Dear Friends in Christ,

Major power shifts are taking place in the Middle East causing students of Bible prophecy to take notice. We have long been warning of war in the region [Psalm 83, Ezekiel 38/39], possibly before Armageddon. Political change can cause tensions to erupt into a large-scale confrontation.

The Trump Administration is in the center of speculation; rumors about Saudi Arabia’s effort to help the US market a comprehensive peace plan for the Middle East are being circulated. The details of this plan are, according to Prophecy News Watch, “intriguingly mysterious.” Last week, the Saudis unexpectedly summoned Palestinian Authority [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas to Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, to discuss Trump’s “ultimate solution” for the Israeli-Arab conflict, reportedly being promoted by Jared Kushner, advisor to Trump. The Saudis were said to pressure Abbas to endorse the peace plan or resign.

Abbas cannot be seen to agree to a plan that does not include all the demands of the Palestinian state, such as the “right of return” for millions of “refugees, ” a return to Israel’s 1967 borders, and the refusal to allow any Israeli in their future Palestinian state. Although there are thousands of Arabs currently living in Israel, according to Prophecy Today, the Palestinians demand complete racial purity in their territory. For Abbas to present any plan that would not meet these demands would be a death warrant for Abbas.

Abbas has painted himself into a corner. He has done well in radicalizing the Palestinians to the point where they will accept no compromise with Israel. However he also needs the political support of the Arab countries. But most of the PA’s financial support comes from the US and the European Union, which gives them leverage with Abbas as well.

Recent overtures by Saudi Arabia are attributed to the take-over of power by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, known as MBS. Ken Timmerman reported that Salman “muscled his way to the top,” resulting in a bloodless coup over his father. The announcement of the appointment of MBS as King of Saudi Arabia will take place this coming week according to a high level source. The former King will remain as a figurehead and as custodian of the two holy mosques. The takeover included the house arrest of five hundred “enemies” of the Prince who are being sequestered at the Ritz Carlton in Riyadh.

Although tensions have long been high between Iran, a Shia country, and Saudi Arabia, a Sunni Muslim country, MBS is in favor of less conservative measures again Iran. He is said to be lighting a fire for a war with Iran with Israel’s assistance, suggesting Israel take the lead again Iran’s state terrorism group, Hizbollah, now occupying southern Lebanon. The Saudi’s could then concentrate on Iran. Israel does not want a war with Lebanon, but with pressure from Saudi Arabia and possibly the US, that could change. If Lebanon falls entirely, it would revert entirely to Hizbollah. Israel already has enemies on their northern border with Syria to contend with.

Adding to the tension is a deal brokered by the US, Russia, and Jordan and signed November 8, 2017, that establishes a de-escalation zone in Syria’s southwestern region bordering Israel and Jordan. The zone was brokered to restrict Iranian-backed forces from encroaching on Israel’s Golan Heights. Although Israeli officials demanded that the zone be at least 25 miles wide, the range is as little as 3.5 miles to 13 miles depending on the position of opposition regime forces in the Syrian Golan. The enforcement mechanism against Iran’s incursion is Russia, the only faction with forces on the ground.

The issue with Lebanon took another turn when the Lebanese Prime Minister, Saed Hariri, resigned two weeks ago fearing for his life. He fled to Saudi Arabia, where he either sought asylum or is also under house arrest. Hariri claimed Iran was meddling in his country generating “disorder and destruction” [World Israel News]. PM Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel reacted to the resignation by saying it was “a wake-up call to the international community to take action against Iranian aggression.” It is possible Hariri may yet return to Lebanon to reveal his full intentions.

There has been much speculation about any peace plan the Trump Administration would propose since President Trump’s visit to Saudi Arabia in May. Rumors were strengthened by Arab reports, denied by Saudi officials, that Crown Prince Salman took a secret trip to Israel in September where he met with Netanyahu. There is a secret correspondence between the Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al Jubeir and Crown Prince Salman which reveals the draft of a possible peace deal between Saudi Arabia and Israel [Al-Akhbar, Lebanese website, November 18, 2017].

The Saudis may not be alone in their interests in peace. Prophecy News Watch believes Trump’s “ultimate solution” may result in Arab countries that have no real conflict with Israel in signing treaties with Israel. Such nations as Kuwait, Oman, and Saudi Arabia have no territorial dispute with the Israeli nation. The only “problem” Arab countries have with Israel is concerning the Palestinians and it appears there is a growing mutual dislike between the Arab regimes and the Palestinians and their leaders. The Palestinians particularly despise any Arab leader who is aligned with the US.

It may be that Trump and Kushner may have found the loophole they have been looking for in a Middle East peace deal—form a block of pro-Israel Arab nations that will enforce peace on the region. This scenario lends itself to a confrontation between Israel and those Arab nations which do have issues with Israel: the Palestinians [Gaza], Iran [Hezbollah], Turkey, Syria, Jordan and possibly Egypt. Russia would likely be involved as an ally of Israel’s enemies. This is beginning to sound like an overture to the Psalm 83 war, which may ignite if Saudi Arabia goes to war with Iran and Israel bombs Hezbollah and/or Damascus Syria.
